A block of expanded synthetic resin, for example polyurethane or a polyvinyl resin, comprises two layers differing in their cellular structure and bonded together by melting an area of one of the layers, e.g. that having the smaller cells, superficially, and allowing the melted area to solidify in contact with the other layer. One of the layers may be derived from a polyester resin.
