Abstract

974,181. Suspended ceilings. RALSTON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. May 16, 1963 [March 9, 1962], No. 9289/62. Heading E1V. An insulating tile for affixing to wall or ceiling surfaces wherein the outer protective casing or cladding 1 (Fig. 1) is a sheet of metal or like relatively rigid and wear-resistant material has its exposed face 3 perforated to form inwardlydirected projections 4 of shallow Vee-shape of equal height whereby a minimum clearance is maintained between a slab of sound and heat insulating material and the rear of the sheet. The longer sides of the perforations are between the flanks of the Vee, which are arranged as shown in Fig. 1, apertures 7 being formed as shown in Fig. 4. The sides of the front of the casing 1 are inturned at substantially 90 degrees (Fig. 2) to form flanges 2 with free edges having fixing formations to engage coacting mounting bars on the wall or ceiling surface, and may have formations 9, 10 (Fig. 4) thereon interlocking with formations on adjacent tiles, when the flange ends may be cut away. The interlocking formations may then themselves be engaged by a prong 11 of a spring clip 12 (Fig. 5), which can be sprung over a beam 13 secured to the wall or ceiling surface.
