Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of general formula <FORM:0973922/C1/1> wherein R1 represents an alkyl radical containing 11-18 carbon atoms, and R2 represents an alkyl alkenyl, alkynyl or halo-alkenyl group containing up to 6 carbon atoms or a cyclohexyl or cyclohexenyl group; their alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts; and their preparation by condensing an ester of formula <FORM:0973922/C1/2> wherein R3 represents a cyano or carbalkoxy radical and R4 represents an alkyl group containing up to 6 carbon atoms, with thiourea and, where R3 is cyano, hydrolysing the resulting 5-substituted-4-imino-2-thio-barbituric acid. Esters II may be prepared by alkylating and/or alkenylating a dialkyl malonate or cyano-acetic acid alkyl ester. Antivirus preparations comprise the Compounds I and salts of the invention with pharmaceutical excipients. Oral and parenteral administration of solid compositions (tablets, dragees, capsules, suppositories) and liquid compositions (solutions, emulsions, suspensions) is mentioned, e.g. for the treatment of influenza.
