Abstract

973,175. Gas engines. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. July 9, 1963 [Aug. 3, 1962], No. 29994/62. Heading F1B. In an internal-combustion engine operating on gaseous fuel exhausted from the top of a blast furnace, liquid hydrocarbon is injected into the gas, the combustion air, or a mixture thereof before entering the cylinder, the amount of fuel being not more than 60 gms. per cubic metre (N.T.P.) of top gas. The fuel may be a hydrocarbon having between 5 and 9 carbon atoms per molecule or mixtures of hydrocarbons may be used.
