Abstract

972,836. Polishing glass surfaces. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. April 21, 1961 [April 21, 1960], No. 14612/61. Drawings to Specification. Heading B3D. [Also in Division B2] Glass surfaces are polished by supplying to the operative face of one or more tools a liquid suspension of rouge which contains about 95% of particles of a diameter not exceeding 4 microns. Preferably the particle size of the said percentage ranges from 0.1 to 4 microns, although when using a wool felt tool it may range from 0.4 to 1 micron and when using a wool and hair felt tool from 0.4 to 3 microns; the latter tool is described as comprising 60-75% of lamb's wool, 10-15% of cow hair and 15-25% of goat's hair. A quantity of flushing liquid is supplied to the operative face of the tool during polishing under a working pressure below 25 kgms./cm<SP>2</SP>.
