972,182. Melt spinning apparatus. KONSTRUKTIONS-UND INGENIEURBURO CHEMIE VEB. June 8, 1961, No. 20783/61. Addition to 936,878. Drawings to Specification. Heading B5B. A melt spinning apparatus includes a device for heating and/or melting filament-forming material, said device comprising a melting chamber in the form of a vertical cylinder of circular or elliptical cross-section, into which the particulate material is fed, and means associated with the chamber for dielectrically heating therein the material to a temperature sufficiently high to melt it, the chamber being lined with an electrically insulating material which is a poorer conductor of heat than the material of the heating means. The latter may comprise two metallic capacitor plates located at opposite sides of the chamber. A non- metallic worm of a screw conveyer may be located within the chamber. The heating means associated with the chamber may comprise a metal cylinder surrounding the chamber in spaced relationship and forming one pole of a cylindrical capacitor, and a metallic worm of a screw conveyer located within the chamber and forming the other pole of the capacitor. The material to be heated may pass through the chamber under the action of gravity. When the chamber is provided with a screw conveyer, this may be of the type having a double worm, i.e. two worms engaging with one another and rotating in opposite directions.
