In a device such as a high voltage alternating current circuit interrupter the gas pressure in a housing 33 is indicated by the position of coloured indicators i.e. green or red reflective adhesive material, extending lengthwise over a rotatable drum 193. The gas under pressure within a main contact (65) housing 33 acts on an end 175 to compress a bellows 177 to move a tube 182 to a position in which a radially outwardly projecting member 188 secured thereto, abuts a radially inwardly projecting member 191 attached to the drum 193, to hold the drum 193 in a position in which a green light is visible through an opening 208. Should the gas pressure in the housing 33 drop, the bellows 177 expands to withdraw the rod 182 and member 188 out of engagement with the member 191 to allow the drum 193 to be rotated by a spring rod until a radially inwardly projecting member 211 abuts the member 188 to stop the drum 193 in a position in which a red indication is visible through opening 208.
