Abstract

971, 893. Measuring temperature electrically. COUNCIL FOR SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH. Jan. 31, 1961 [Jan. 15, 1960], No. 1642/60. Heading G1N. [Also in Division H1] A resistance thermometer comprises two resistors having different temperature co-efficients of resistivity each resistor being wound on a support of the same material as the wire of the corresponding resistor, (see Division H1). The two elements are connected in A.C. bridge or differential circuits the circuits being adapted to avoid errors due to the resistance of the connecting leads, and having transformer ratio arms. Fig. 2 shows one embodiment in which the current supply to the measuring resistors X and Y is via transformer S while the remainder of the bridge circuit comprising transformer ratio arms t and nt and detector can be located remote from the measuring resistors X and Y, the high impedance of the transformer ratio arms preventing the resistance of the connecting leads having much effect on the measurement. Other bridge circuits suitable for use with the elements according to this invention are described in Specification 971, 894.
