Abstract

971,789. Mobile load handling apparatus. SIMON ENGINEERING DUDLEY Ltd. May 7, 1963 [May 8, 1962], No. 17707/62. Heading B8H. [Also in Division E1] A carrier 10 for loads and an operator is mounted on a pair of interconnected booms 11, 12, which are luffable by hydraulic rams 11a, 12a and which are mounted on a turntable 13a on a chassis 13, and is maintained horizontal in all positions of the boom by a linkage comprising a link 14, pivoted between the turntable 13a and a bell-crank lever 16 pivotable about the axis 17 of the interconnection between the booms, and links 18, 15, 19 connected in series between the carrier 10 and the bell-crank 16. Stops 20, 21 on the carrier 10 and the bell-crank lever 16, respectively, and stops 22, 23 on the link 15 limit the pivotal movement of the links 18, 19. In operation, with the boom 12 extending upwardly and the boom 11 extending downwardly therefrom, Fig. 2, the link 19 engages the stop 21 and the links 15, 18, the carrier 10, the boom 11 and the bell-crank lever 16 form a parallelogram linkage, the link 14, the turntable 13a, the boom 12 and the bell-crank lever 16 also forming a parallelogram linkage. When the boom 11 is raised to the horizontal position, the links 18, 15, 19 become aligned and the stops 20, 23 engage the links 18, 19 respectively. If the boom 12 is pivoted downwardly from this position to move the boom 11 towards a position in which it extends vertically upwards, Fig. 4 (not shown), the link 18 engages the stop 22 so that the parallelogram linkage comprises the links 15, 19, the boom 11, the carrier 10 and the bell-crank lever 16. The parallel motion links may be mounted within the booms and the apparatus may have three or more booms. Control means for the apparatus are mounted on the carrier 10. Specification 751,599 is referred to.
