Abstract

1,263,604. Luffing boom apparatus. SIMON ENG: DUDLEY Ltd. 5 June, 1970 [5 July, 1969], No. 34017/69. Heading B8H. [Also in Division A4] Apparatus for refuelling aircraft comprises a fuel tanker vehicle 10 having an hydraulically operable boom assembly mounted thereon, which serves as a carrier for a fuel delivery line, the boom assembly having three sections, the first, 13, being pivotably connected at one end to a turntable mounted on the tanker, and being adapted for movement between substantially vertical and substantially horizontal positions, the second section 14 being pivotably connected to the free end of the first boom for movement therewith from a substantially vertical position adjacent the first boom when in its vertical position, to a substantially horizontal position in line with the first boom when in its horizontal position, and the third section 17 being pivotably connected to the free end of the second boom. The third section may carry a cage for the operator, held in a constant orientation by parallelogram couplings 24, 27, 28. One side of the cage may be pivotably connected to the cage and may form a ladder. The boom assembly may be operated by double-acting hydraulic piston-and-cylinder devices 15, 17.
