A microphone and earphone set includes at least one earphone mounted in an earpiece disposed to face the auditory duct of one ear, a microphone carried by the or another earpiece and positioned to engage the area of the zygmatic process of the temporal bone or the area of the tip of the mastoid process of the temporal bone at one side of the wearer's head, and supporting means for securing said earpiece or earpieces on the wearer's head. A support 1 (Fig. 1) carries a pair of ear-flaps 2 adjustably mounted by rods 3. Each ear-flap 2 carries an earphone and a contact microphone 6 of dynamic type. An amplifier associated with the microphone 6 is incorporated in the ear-flap 2 (Fig. 2, not shown). The ear-flap is of polyvinyl foam or cellular rubber. Ear-flaps 2 (Fig. 4) are sewn or glued to a head-dress 10 comprising a pleated strip 13, side panels 11, 12, and an elastic head-band 18. The ear-flaps 2 are protected by leather caps 15 having stiff flanges 16 and secured by rivets 19 to head-band 18. Buckles 20a, 21a are provided for adjustment of neck- and chin-straps 20, 21. Alternatively the head-dress is of open-mesh fabric of slightly elastic material (Fig. 5, not shown). The set may have only one earphone 25 (Fig. 8) a ring 28 being applied around the external ear not utilizing the earphone. Two microphones 31, 33 engage the mastoid process of the temporal bone. An amplifier 32 is included. Microphone 33 and earphone 25 may be replaced by an earflap 2 (see Fig. 1) having a microphone and earphone-microphone 33 may be omitted (Fig. 6, not shown) and microphone 31 may engage the zygomatic process of the temporal bone (Fig. 7, not shown).
