In a spark ignition engine having a combustion chamber 20 in the piston crown, the surface 21 of the chamber is convex and the surface 24 concave, the sparking plug tip 16 being situated to one side of the cylinder axis. The sparking plug tip is situated in a small recess 23. Specification 971,518 is referred to.
