The combustion chamber 8 of a spark ignition engine is in the shape of a body of rotation of constant height with its axis 6 inclined to the cylinder axis 5 and parallel to the plane 4 containing the axes of the valves. The igniter 7 may be arranged at the circumference of the chamber or at a point nearer the centre.
