Abstract

971,428. Making helically seamed tubes. HOESCH A.G. Feb. 10, 1961 [Feb. 13, 1960] No. 5081/61. Headings B3A and B3E. A machine for making helically welded tube comprises a triple roller bending device, adjustable guide rollers for guiding the bent strip into a helix of the desired diameter and a welding head located adjacent where the edges of the strip first meet. The strip is fed at angle to a bending device consisting of two lower rollers 16, 17 and an upper roller 15 which is mounted on a cantilever arm 18 of semicircular section. The bent strip is guided by further rollers 32, 42, 52 spaced around the greater part of the periphery of the first coil. All the rollers are adjustably mounted to cater for different thicknesses of strip and diameters of tube. The bending rollers 16, 17 and the guide rollers 32, 42, 52 are mounted on shafts adjustable by threaded devices 7 in slots 5 in upright plates 1 forming part of the machine frame. External rollers 22, 23 and an internal roller located adjacent the welding head 25 guide the welded tube. Rollers may be provided on the arm 18. Specification 867,621 is referred to.
