[Also in Division E1] A tubular telescopic roof rack, Fig. 2, for a car, normally supported on the car roof by suckers and secured to the roof gutters by tensioning devices, is convertible into an independent tent supporting framework, by removing the rack from the roof and extending the telescopic side and end members 1 to 8, Fig. 1, to form the tent roof frame and removing the base members 33 of the rack and utilizing them as roof frame supporting legs, each comprising three jointed base members, connected to sockets at the corners of the rack. The framework is retained in the extended position by securing together flange members 9 and 11 and is retained in the collapsed position by securing together flange members 9 and 10. In another embodiment described with reference to Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the upper and lower tubular members of the sides of the roof rack are hinged together at one end and secured together at the other end, the lower members being secured to the roof gutters via transverse stirrup members and connected by a pair of foldable two-part transverse members which clampingly receive the base members.When used as a tent supporting framework, the upper and lower members are unfolded to form a roof frame and the base members are removed and support the roof frame.
