Abstract

971,131. Laminates. NEW YORK AIR BRAKE CO. Aug. 23, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 32450/62. Heading B5N. [Also in Division E1] A sandwich type window pane comprises a pair of rigid transparent sheets 4, 7 impervious to moisture and air, the sheet 4 having a transparent coating 5 of chromium compounds and a transparent coating 6 of a material having a higher energy reflecting characteristic. The coating 5 is produced by vaporizing metallic chromium in air at a pressure of 1-5 mm. Hg. and depositing it on to the sheet 4 which is heated to a temperature between 130‹ and 190‹ F. and is believed to be a mixture of metallic chromium and chromium oxides. The layer 6 may be aluminium or gold and is also vacuum deposited and both layers 5, 6 are each about 50-100 Š thick. The sheet 7 may be bonded to the coated sheet by a layer of polyvinyl butyrol or they may be separated by an evacuated space or a non-oxidizing gas.
