Abstract
971,015. Taximeters. GEECEN Ltd. April 30, 1963 [Oct. 11, 1962], No. 16964/63. Heading G4T. A taximeter comprises a shaft 10 driven by a mixed drive and carrying a two lobe cam 9 for lifting a ratchet arm 2 for indexing a price indicator 6 as the arm returns under the action of a spring 4, and a cam 11 which co-operates with a follower 8 on the arm 2 to prevent the arm from dropping during the initial charge period, during-which time the cam rotates intermittently, then oscillates so that a recess 11<SP>1</SP> in the cam allows alternate drops of the arm 2, and finally stops with the recess 11<SP>1</SP> below the follower 8 allowing every drop of the cam thus doubling the tariff. The cam 11 is rotated against the action of a spring 14 by a pawl 15 reciprocated by an eccentric on the shaft 10, which eccentric co-operates with a ratchet wheel 12 attached to the cam 11,the follower 8 holding by friction the cam 11 while the pawl 15 engages the next tooth. When a pin 16 on the pawl 15 reaches a portion 12<SP>1</SP> of the ratchet wheel, the cam 11 oscillates in unison with the reciprocating pawl 15, so that the recess 11<SP>1</SP> is below the follower 8 at alternate drops. Thus the wheel 6 is indexed once for each revolution of the shaft 10 to provide a first tariff. For each revolution of the shaft 10 an arm 23 is reciprocated longitudinally until the non-return pawl 24 drops in a recess 22 thus engaging a pawl 25<SP>1 </SP>to prevent the return oscillations of the cam 11. Recess 11<SP>1</SP> is thus maintained below the follower 8 from this point on so that every fall of the arm 2 indexes the wheel 6. Thus the wheel 6 is indexed two steps for each rotation of the shaft 10 and the tariff is doubled. Specification 971,014 is referred to.
