[Also in Division B8] A stack of newspapers to be wrapped is moved along conveyers 16, 18, Fig. 2, passing over a cutter drive unit 20. A web 28a, Fig. 12, is fed from a roll 28 by pairs 128a, 42f and 116a, 42e of driven and pressure rollers past a cutter 82 and a curved guide plate 64 so as to come underneath a stack and advance therewith. The feed and cutter mechanism is actuated by a switch LS1 operated by the stack. Pneumatic cylinders AC1, AC2 are operated under control of the switch, so as first to swing a member 42 carrying the rollers 42f, 42e counterclockwise to engage the rollers 128a, 42f and feed the web past the cutter, then to swing the member 42 clockwise to separate the rollers 128a, 42f, engage the rollers 116a, 42e, and move the cutter against the web. The cutter is provided with saw teeth which initiate a cut completed by a tearing action caused by the pull of the rollers 116a, 42e. The latter movement of the member 42 and the operation of the cutter takes place when the stack releases the switch LS1. Specification 970,971 is referred to.
