Abstract

998,736. Feeding webs. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc. Aug. 11, 1961 [Aug. 12, 1960], No. 29096/61. Addition to 974,619. Heading B6B. [Also in Division B8] In a machine of the type described in the parent Specification, the perforated web, designed to fit over groups of cans, is drawn from a reel by means of the power-driven drum of an assembly 180 and led in tension-free condition through a trough 204 past a driven roller 206 to a station 214 where the web is applied to the cans. The web is pulled round the assembly 180 by means of pairs of pins 190 inserted through the holes in the web. The pins are movable in slots in the drum, being mounted on shafts, Fig. 2A (not shown), turned by bell-cranks operated by a fixed cam 200. A roller 162 pivoted on a counter-weighted bell-crank lever 164 causes a switch 172 to stop the machine if the supply of web from the reel fails. Switches are also provided to stop the machine if the supply of cans fails or if a can overturns before packaging. Specifications 914,202 and 976,398 also are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 922,591.
