Abstract

970,915. Universal joints; springs. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 19, 1963 [Sept. 24, 1962], No. 36223/62. Headings F2U and F2S. A universal coupling between shafts of a motor and a tacho-generator (Fig. 4, not shown), comprises a helical metallic spring 7 around which is moulded a synthetic elastomer 1 having one or more axially disposed key portions 4, 5 and 6 which engage with keyways of the coupled shafts, the ends 8, 9 of the springs 7 extending into and reinforcing the key portions 4, 5. A chamfer 2 at one end of the coupling 1 facilitates assembly.
