Abstract

The invention comprises a process for the production of blended yarns, mouline or coloured patterns or designs on textile fabrics of synthetic material which comprises the steps of (1) processing side by side a plurality of synthetic filaments or threads or yarns produced therefrom, of polymers of similar chemical constitution containing an optical brightener in different quantities (or only part of the yarns contain optical brightener) and (ii) dyeing in one bath the yarns or fabrics produced. The materials thus dyed have more than one shade of the same colour and may be knitted or woven materials. Synthetic polymers referred to are polyamides, polyesters, and polyolefins, and dyes used are acid or disperse dyes. The optical brightener is preferably incorporated into the filament or yarn during the spinning process but may also be applied by treating the thread. Stripe or check patterns can be produced in warp knitted fabrics by providing ground and face warp yarn guides with a combination of the yarns such that the superimposed effect of one series of yarns on the other produces the desired effect.
