Abstract

970,623. Discharging hoppers. AUTOPACK Ltd. March 15, 1963 [March 20, 1962], No. 10584/62. Heading B8A. A screw 3 is driven at two speeds to discharge material from hopper 1 down into a container therebeneath. Both speeds are derived from motor 14. The first and fastest speed is transmitted from motor 14 to screw 3 via gear 17, belt 22, pulley 20, sleeve 12 and clutch 8, the drive then passing from spindle 7 through gears 6 and 5 to shaft 4 of screw 3. The second and lowest speed is transmitted to screw 3 from the motor 14 via gear 15, chain 18, gear 19, sleeve 13, clutch 9 and thence (as before) from shaft 7 via gears 6 and 5 to the shaft 4 of screw 3. The screw 3 therefore is driven for a predetermined period at a first higher speed and then at a second lower speed. The change of speed is effected by timer 43 which is driven from shaft 7 via gear 27, gear 29, pin 37, disc 38 and pinion 42. Operation.-When motor 14 is first driven to drive screw 3, clutch 8 is operated to drive the screw at the higher speed. At the same time the shaft 41 of the timer 43 is also driven. The timer then operates a switch to declutch clutch 8 and to clutch in clutch 9 so that the continued rotation of motor 14 drives screw 3 at the lower speed. Finally, the timer operates another switch to declutch clutch 9 and to operate brake 24 to stop the screw 3. Agitator 36.-The agitator in hopper 1 is driven from motor 14 via shaft 7, gears 27 and 29, gearing 31, chain 33 and sleeve 35. Specification 970,664 is referred to.
