913,726. Dispensing measured quantities by means of screws. HESSER, MASCHINENFABRIK-A.G., Fr. March 15, 1961 [March 18, 1960], No. 9426/61. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] Powder from shoot 40 is distributed at 41 on to rotating disc 4. Disc 4 carries a plurality of hoppers 3 each having its respective discharge screw 1. The material falls from disc 4 into a hopper 3 and is discharged therefrom in predetermined amount by screw 1 into the containers P carried by belt 5b. Clutch mechanism.-Screw 1 is driven from fixed rack 7 via gear 8, clutch 27, 32 and gears 11, 12. Screw 1 is driven for a predetermined number of revolutions in order to insert into respective container P a predetermined quantity of powder. In order that the number of revolutions of screw 1 should be exact it is arranged that the two clutch parts 27 and 32 should be at the same speed when they are brought into engagement. To effect this, clutch part 27 carries a nut which engages with helix 30, and the said part is also operated by cam rail 15 through pivoted lever 17 so that when gear 8 begins to be driven by rack 7 clutch part 27 is moved downwards by cam 15. The two rotary movements thus imparted to clutch part 27 cancel out each other so that the two clutch parts 27 and 32 come into engagement when they are both substantially at rest. Cam rail 15 is carried by a cam piece 15a and this in turn is carried by arm 60 adjustable at 61 when motor 68 is operated. By this means the operation of arm 17 may be set to give the predetermined number of revolutions for screw 1. Likewise arm 60 carries cam rail 46 which operates roller 47 to actuate brake 42 to bring the screw 1 to rest. Agitators 75 and 76 are caused to rotate inside hopper 3 by a drive from shaft 14 via gearing 78, 79 and 77.
