Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0970583/C1/1> and their acid addition salts, in which R is an alkyl group, or a phenyl or phenalkyl group optionally substituted in the ring by alkyl, or alkoxy groups or halogen atoms, and the preparation thereof by reacting a compound of the formula ABN.CH:CR.CHO with a halogenating agent and the halogenated compound with 2, 4, 6-triamino pyridine, where ABN is a tertiary amino group and R is as defined above. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a compound of the invention and a pharmaceutical carrier. The composition may be in the form of tablets, capsules, cachets, ampoules, suppositories, powders, granules, solutions or suspensions in aqueous, non-aqueous and emulsified liquids and ointments. The compounds are antibacterial agents.
