Abstract

970,466. Ammunition cartridges. AMP Inc. June 19, 1963 [July 2, 1962; Nov. 23, 1962], No. 24333/63. Heading F3A. [Also in Division B4] A propellent cartridge, primarily intended for use in cartridge - operated tools, comprises a case 2 and plug 5 made from extrudable plastics material such as polyethylene, the case being of constant internal diameter, closed at one end by a cap 3 and tapering externally to an opposite open end. In a second embodiment (Fig. 5, not shown), the case is provided with external longitudinal ribs which are tapered and extend from the cap 3 towards the open end for somewhat more than two-thirds the length of the case. The cartridge is fired as described in Specification 873,192 and after firing the plug 5 fuses to the case as described in Specification 872,626. Fig. 4 shows the breech 11 of a tool having a combustion chamber 10 suitably tapered to accommodate the cartridge. The general construction and operation of the tool is as described in Specifications 956,227 and 959,884.
