Abstract

970,257. Valves. BARGER MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. March 22, 1962, No. 11094/62. Heading F2V. [Also in Divisions B8 and F4] A valve for controlling the release of liquid from a compressed air system, comprises a pipe 22, connected to the system and a ball valve 21 normally urged on to its seat 19 by the fluid pressure. A second valve member 25, formed on an actuating rod 24, controls an exhaust port 23 and is loaded by a spring 27 towards its open position. The rod 24 is connected to a diaphragm 18 which is actuated by fluid from an inlet 29 to first close the exhaust valve 25 and then open the ball valve 21, liquid then passes to the bore 11 between the valves. When the pressure on the diaphragm is released, the spring 27 acts on the rod 24 to first close the ball valve 21 and then open the exhaust valve 25 allowing flow of liquid from the bore 11 to exhaust. When the valve is used on a vehicle braking system, fluid may be fed to the pipe 29 to actuate the valve when the brakes are applied or released. A throttle 31 may be provided to vary the sensitivity of the diaphragm 18.
