Abstract

1325330 Fluid pressure brake control valves WESTINGHOUSE BREMSENUND APPARATEBAU GmbH 4 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57717/70 Heading F2F An electro-pneumatically controlled valve assembly for controlling pneumatically actuated hydro-dynamic motor vehicle brakes comprises an electrically operable valve 1 controlling the supply of air to an actuating cylinder of a main control valve 2 which latter includes a piston 26 which displaces a valve stem 29, provided with inlet and outlet valves 27, 28 respectively, against the bias of a spring 30, the valve 1 including a diaphragm 24 displaceable by an electromagnetically operated pusher 23 in one direction and subjected in the opposite direction to a force due to the pressure of air in the valve. When the electromagnet is energized diaphragm 24 is displaced to block escape of air from a chamber 13 to atmosphere and a valve member 21 is lifted off its seat to allow compressed air from a reservoir 5 to enter the chamber and flow via a duct 32 to displace piston 26 downwards and open inlet valve 27 to allow compressed air available at an inlet 6 to flow to brake cylinder 10, pneumatic pressure also acting on diaphragm 24 until valve 1 attains a position in which braking action has been completed.
