Abstract

969,466. Protective lining for watercourses; soil stabilization. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. June 6, 1963 [June 8, 1962], No. 22612/63. Headings E1F and E1H. A method of lining hydraulic works, e.g. watercourses, canals, lakes and seas comprises applying as a lining a bitumen composition consisting of by weight 1 to 25% bitumen, 0 to 25% filler, 1 to 25% free sulphur and 50 to 97% of mineral aggregate. The composition may be prepared by mixing and heating to between 120 and 160‹C. and then pouring into a mould which may be provided with reinforcement. After cooling, e.g. to 40‹C. the moulded slab is lifted by means of suction pads and applied to the object to be protected. The composition may be kept, e.g. several hours at a temperature between 40 and 100‹C. in the mould. The bitumen used for the composition may be an asphaltic bitumen having a penetration at 25‹C. from 20 to 100 decimillimetres.
