Abstract
303,858. Stahn, A. Jan. 11, 1928, [Convention date]. Core materials. - Cores are made from sand, which may contain a small proportion of clay, loam, lime, &c., and an inorganic binder, such as boric or phosphoric acid, which forms a glassy melt when heated to over 150‹ C. but below 400‹ C. and preferably below 250‹ C. and which loses its binding power at casting temperatures, i.e. over 1000‹ C. An organic binder may also be added to hold the grains of sand together until the inorganic binder becomes effective in the drying stove. 2 to 4 per cent of boric acid may be be mixed with the sand or the binder may be applied to the surface of cores or moulds.
