Abstract
A single crystal of a ferrimagnetic ceramic material is pulled from a melt heated by induction in a metal crucible of high electrical and thermal conductivity having hollow walls through which cooling fluid is passed. The ferrimagnetic ceramic material may be nickel-zince ferrite, cobalt ferrite, or yttrium oxide-ferric oxide. The nickel-zinc ferrite may contain 25 mol per cent nickel oxide, 25 mol per cent zinc oxide, and 50 mol per cent ferric oxide. The crucible may be of silver and may be formed of a number of adjacent tubes. Specifications 871,157 and 889,615 also are referred to.
