Abstract

968,810. Pit props. BECORIT (G.B.) Ltd. April 30, 1963, No. 16957/63. Heading E1E. In a telescopic pit prop 10, 11 wherein friction locking is effected by a wedge 22 urging friction pads 18, 20 carried by a housing 16 of the outer prop into contact with the inner prop, the latter member is slightly tapered and provided with treads 28, 29 as shown to maintain a substantially constant contact pressure between the inner prop and the pads. The pads abut a flange 30 welded to the housing 16 which is provided with a filler piece 25 for wedge-engagement purposes. The taper is about 1 in 500.
