The vertical displacement of a plough 28 is controlled by an element 8 operated by a piston 3 in a cylinder 2 which is connected by a pipe 1 with the fluid transmission system of a tractor whereby changes in the driving torque of the tractor affect the vertical displacement of the plough. The initial setting of the plough and thus the pressure in the cylinder 2 which represents the torque of the tractor is adjustable by a lever 14. In an embodiment the pressure in the fluid transmission system affects the lifting cylinder 19 directly.
