968,477. Solar stills. EASTWOOD PLASTICS Ltd. Jan. 25, 1963 [July 19, 1962], No. 27785/62. Heading B1B. In an inflatable solar still, comprising a transparent waterproof shell 1 enclosing an adsorbent fabric bag 2 supplied with sea water from a reservoir 3, sea water is supplied to reservoir 3 by means of the external hand pump 12 and tubes 14 and 15. The mouth of reservoir 3 is closed by stopper 8, to which is attached a string 12 passing through the feed nozzle 4 to the bag 2. The pressures within the still and reservoir respectively are equalized by means of air duct 9. Pump 12 is a hollow elastically-deformable bulb, fitted with a non- return valve on both the inlet and the outlet, so that, on squeezing the bulb and releasing it, sea water is drawn up through tube 14 via the inlet valve to fill the bulb. On squeezing the bulb again, the sea water is passed into the reservoir via tube 15. Tube 14 may be removed from the source of sea water and hung on the side of the still by hook 17, so that the still may be initially inflated with air using pump 12.
