Abstract
One or more resilient members capable of undergoing vibration by periodic deformation are coated with a composition which comprises two or more polymers each of which has not been externally plasticized and one or more plasticizers, the or each plasticizer being distributed amongst the polymeric components in thermodynamic equilibrium, the second order transition temperatures of two of the polymeric components in the mixture differing by at least 10 DEG C. after the attainment of thermodynamic equilibrium, wherein the polymeric components are homopolymers and/or copolymers derived from monomers selected from vinyl esters, esters of unsaturated mono- or dicarboxylic acids and vinyl chloride. Compositions used are an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate and vinyl acetate/vinyl chloride copolymer and vinyl acetate/dibutyl maleate copolymer plasticized with 20% by weight of dioctyl phthalate and a mixture of aqueous dispersions of polyvinyl acetate and a vinyl acetate/vinyl chloride copolymer, plasticized with 6% by weight of dioctyl phthalate. The composition may also contain a filler. The resilient member may be a metal sheet. Specifications 871,254 and 897,504 are referred to.
