968,256. Lens systems; cinematograph cameras. PAILLARD S. A. Dec. 5, 1962 [Dec. 7, 1961], No. 46018/62. Headings G2A, G2E and G2J. The objective lens of a cinematograph camera includes at least one movable lens group for varying the focal length and at least one fixed lens group on the image-side of the movable group, there being between the two lens groups reflecting means whereby the optical axis of the fixed lens group can be arranged at an angle (cf. 90 degrees) to that of the movable group. As shown, the fixed group comprises lenses L 8 - L 13 to which light is reflected by the internal surface of prism combination 6, 7 after passing through fixed negative lens L, a movable afocal group L 2 and L 3 and varifocal group L 4 - L 7 . Marginal rays which are not interrupted by the reflecting prism interface pass to a view-finding system L 14 - L 20 , the lens L 18 having a frosted or ground plane surface to aid focusing. The camera may be fitted with a diaphragm having two blades 10 mounted on the needle 11 of a galvanometer, the diaphragm being disposed between the prism 6, 7 and lens L 8 or lens L 7 By means of this objective lens system, the film gate may be parallel to the optical axis of the lenses L 1 - L 7 to make the camera more compact.
