968,174. Conduit couplings. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. May 16, 1963, No. 19564/63. Headings F2G and F2P. A coupling for a conduit 10 having an externally ribbed or threaded surface and an encircling sheath of a plastic comprises an inner part 14 formed with internal grooves for engagement with the helically ribbed surface of the conduit and an end face shaped to engage the out-turned part 13 of the sheath, an outer part 20 having an inwardly directed flange for engagement with the part 13 of the sheath and provided with an internally threaded surface engageable with a third coupling part 18 encircling the part 14 and in engagement with a shoulder 15 thereon. Relative rotation between the parts 18, 20 causes the part 13 of the sheath to be gripped therebetween. As shown, the conduit of helically wound metal strip 10 is formed with a helical rib or ribs 11 of opposite hand to that of the wound strip, and the sheath 12 is of polyvinyl chloride. The coupling is provided with an earthing tag 27.
