Description

SPECIFICATION Flexible tube for connecting a ventilating roof tile to the ventilating pipe of a building This invention related to a flexible tube made of plastics material having spiral folds and pipe fittings positioned at its ends, one of which being provided with a socket to be connected to the pipe extension of a ventilating roof tile and the other having a spigot end to be connected to the ventilating pipe of a building.
For the purpose of venting soil pipes in buildings, ventilating ducts are being used which are usually connected to special ventilating roof tiles. Since the ventilating pipe which ends below the roof is usually offset parallel to the respective ventilating roof tile and its pipe extension, flexible tubes are being used, among others, to connect the ends of the pipes.
In a known design of this type (DE-OS. 29 29 978), a one-piece flexible tube made of plastics material provided with a pipe fitting formed at each end is being used. Such a flexible tube is designed for a certain axial offset between the ventilating pipe and the pipe extension of the ventilating roof tile. If the axial offset of the ends to be connected is larger and/or the ends are further away from each other, then the greater distance can be bridged by two or more flexible tubes. However, in order to also meet the different local conditions in the best possible way, flexible tubes of different lengths are required which entails higher expenditure for stock-keeping.
It is an object of the invention to design a flexible tube of the aforementioned type which can be used as universally as possible.
This problem is solved according to this invention in that at least one pipe fitting has at its tube-sided end a socket provided with an internal screw thread, into which the corresponding end of the flexible tube is screwed.
By connecting the flexible tube with one or two pipe fittings in this way, it is possible to use a flexible tube having a length which is also sufficient for bridging greater distances between the ventilating pipe and the ventilating roof tile. An adjustment to smaller distances can easily be made then by shortening the flexible tube. Since the shortened end of the flexible tube has just to be screwed again into the socket of the respective pipe fitting, an adjustment can also be made quickly, and one will always obtain connections having an aesthetic appearance.
According to the invention there is provided a flexible tube made of plastics material having spiral folds and pipe fittings positioned at its ends, one of which being provided with a socket to be connected to the pipe extension of a ventilating roof tile and the other having a spigot end to be connected to the ventilat ing pipe of a building, characterised in that at least one pipe fitting (10, 11) has at its tube sided end a socket (1 0a, 11 a) provided with an internal screw thread (lOb, 11 b), into which the corresponding end of the flexible tube (8a, 8b) is screwed.
Preferably, the two pipe fittings consist of rigid plastics material and each of them has a socket provided with an internal screw thread having at least two turns. This permits a safe and tight connection of the pipe fittings with the pipe extension of the ventilating roof tile and the ventilating pipe as well as between the pipe fittings and the ends of the flexible tube.
If the folds of the flexible tube are also supported by a wire helix, then an especially tension-proof connection between the pipe fitt ing and the end of the flexible tube screwed therein is obtained without making any addi tional provisions necessary. Besides, the flexi ble tube is provided thereby with a high torsional strength which makes any undesira ble loosening or unscrewing of one end of the flexible tube from the respective pipe fitting more difficult after it has been assembled, because for this it is also necessary to disen gage at least one pipe fitting either from the ventilating pipe or the pipe extension of the ventilating roof tile.
There now follows a description of a parti cular embodiment of the invention, by way of example only, with reference to the accom panying drawings, in which: Figure 1 shows a partial view of the cover ing of a pitched roof with a ventilating roof tile and connected to its underside a flexible tube as well as a part of a ventilating pipe connected to the lower end thereof.
Figure 2 shows the connection of the upper end of the flexible tube with the lower end of a pipe extension of the ventilating roof tile according to Fig. 1 in sectional view and on a larger scale, and Figure 3 shows the connection of the lower end of the flexible tube with the upper end of the ventilating pipe according to Fig. 1 in sectional view and on a larger scale.
As can be seen from Fig. 1, there is pro vided a rafter 1 to which roof battens 2 are fixed, which beside serving to receive shaped roof tiles 3 also serve the purpose of receiving a special ventilating roof tile 4, preferably made of plastics material. The ventilating roof tile has a pipe extension 5 which is fastened on the rafter 1 by means of a pipe clamp 6.
The underside of the ventilating roof tile 4 is connected with a roof batten 2 by a clip 7 which provides against lift-off caused by storm and wind.
By way of a flexible tube 8 with spiral folds 9, which is provided with pipe fittings 10, 11 at its ends, the pipe extension 5 of the ventilating roof tile 4 is connected to a venti lating pipe 12 leading to soil pipes of the said building, as described hereinafter in greater detail with reference to Fig. 2 and 3.
As can be seen from Fig. 2, the lower end of the pipe extension 5 of the ventilating roof tile is inserted into the pipe fitting 10, the upper part of which is formed as a socket 1 0c provided with a circular groove 1 0d to receive a sealing ring 13. The lower part of the pipe fitting has a socket 1 0a provided with an internal screw thread 1 Ob, into which the flexible tube 8 is screwed with its upper end 8a.
The flexible tube 8 consists of a blown film made of polyethylene having a thickness of approximately 0.2mm. The folds 9 of the flexible tube are supported by a wire helix 14 made of spring steel wire having a thickness of approximately 1 mm.
As can be seen from Fig. 3, the flexible tube 8 is with its lower end 8b connected to the pipe fitting 11 by way of screwing it into its socket 1 1 a which is provided with an internal screw thread 1 1 b. The lower part of the pipe fitting 11 has a spigot end 1 1 c being inserted into a socket 1 2a which is formed at the upper end of the ventilating pipe 12 and provided with a circular groove 1 2b to receive a sealing ring 15.
