968,129. Casting processes. ROSS & CO. (FOUNDRY) Ltd. April 11, 1963 [May 15, 1962], No. 18579/62. Heading B3F. A process for producing permanent magnets of the Fe-Al-Ni-Co alloy type with a unidirectional columnar crystal structure comprises casting into a mould cavity chilled at one end, the mould consisting of a major proportion of moulding sand and a minor proportion of exothermic material and being subjected before pouring to an external source of heat, e.g. electrical radiation sufficiently powerful to heat it to firing temperature for the exothermic material content. The mould may be made by the CO 2 process and contain a small addition of wood flour and graphite. Specifications 634,686, 634,700, 640,886, 659,527 and 676,881 are referred to.
