Abstract
967,743. Valves. GENERAL PRECISION Inc. May 5, 1961 [May 12, 1960], No. 16445/61. Heading F2V. A valve includes a housing having a chamber 34, a valve member 40 of thin cross-section and low mass extending across the chamber and dependent for its function upon the position of a control member 42, a port 45 traversing the valve member 40, resilient means 60 acting on the control member to urge a pilot valve 50 into engagement with a seat in the port 45, and means 17 in the housing to move the control member 42 against the means 60 and open the pilot valve 50. When the electromagnet 17 is energized, the member 42 and the pilot valve 50 to which it is secured are lifted against the spring 60 so that fluid may flow to an outlet port 15 through a passageway 47 in the valve member 40 to produce a pressure differential which lifts the latter from its seat 38. When the valve is closed the fluid pressure assists the action of the spring 60. The valve member 40 is made of a non-magnetic material, such as an aluminium-bronze alloy, and the chamber 34 is which it is housed is sealed from the electromagnet 17 by a seal 30 of rubber-like material. A threaded connection 18, 19 between the electromagnet 17 and the valve housing permits the polepiece 20 and hence the lift of the valve to be adjusted.
