A voltage limiting device (e.g. for overhead conductor supports) comprising a pair of conductors 1 separated by at least one anodically formed insulating oxide layer of a filmforming metal or alloy, the film being formed either on one or both of the conductors, or on one or both faces 5 of one or more metal foils 4 placed between them, the oxide layer and adjacent parts of the conductors being embedded in a self-supporting insulating body 3. The insulating material may be a polyester or epoxy resin, or an elastomer such as neoprene, while the film forming material may be aluminium, titanium, tantalum, niobium, zirconium or alloys of aluminium with magnesium, chromium, or manganese.
