Abstract

1,017,898. Electric strain gauges. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 18, 1964 [Sept. 23, 1963], No. 38160/64. Heading G1N. A strain gauge consists of a wire or foil resistance element 1 sandwiched between two insulating layers 4, 5, the lower layer 5 being an anodically formed oxide film on an aluminium foil 3 which is attached to the body 6 under test. The layer 4, and an insert 7 supporting the leadout wires 2, may be of impregnated paper, and the complete gauge is held together by a thermosetting resin, applied at a temperature of 200‹C for example. The aluminium foil 3 is not thicker than 40Á and the oxide film is between 0.5Á and 2Á thick.
