Discharge of a condenser 56 through the primary winding 60 of an ignition transformer 62 is controlled by a controlled rectifier 42, As shown, interrupter contacts 26, 28 are associated with the control electrode 48 to control conductivity of the rectifier 42. Preferably the system includes an inductive choke 38 with the aid of which the condenser 56 is charged. A distributer (not shown) may be included in the system.
