Abstract

The invention comprises compounds having the formula: <FORM:0967079/C1/1> (where R3O represents an hydroxyl group or an acyloxy residue derived from an inorganic mineral acid or an organic carboxylic acid), their non-toxic water-soluble salts, 3a -acyloxy-20, 20-bis-diaralkylphosphatomethylene-21-hydroxy -5b - pregnan -11- ones and processes for the preparation thereof in which a 3a -acyloxy-20, 20-bis-hydroxymethylene -21- hydroxy -5b - pregnan -11- one wherein the acyl radical is derived from an organic carboxylic acid, is reacted with an aralkyl halogenophosphate to form the corresponding 3a -acyloxy-20, 20-bis-diaralkylphosphato-methylene-21-hydroxy -5b - pregnan -11- one, which is then subjected to hydrogenolysis to yield the corresponding 3a -acyloxy-20, 20-bis phosphatomethylene -21- hydroxy -5b - pregnan -11- one. Alternatively a 3a -acyloxy-20, 20-bis-hydroxymethylene -21- hydroxy -5b - pregnan -11- one wherein the acyl radical is derived from an organic carboxylic acid is reacted with a functional derivative of phosphoric acid e.g. POCl3 to yield the corresponding 3a -acyloxy-20, 20-bis-phosphatomethylene -21- hydroxy -5b - pregnan -11- one.
