Abstract

The invention comprises compounds having the formula: <FORM:0965571/C1/1> wherein R represents hydrogen or an acyl radical, and processes for the preparation thereof by condensing diazomethane with a 21-acyloxypregna-4, 16-diene-3, 11, 20-trione so as to yield a 21-acyloxy- D 1-pyrazolino-[17, 16-c]-pregn-4-ene-3, 11, 20-trione, effecting isomerisation of this latter compound by treating it in an organic solvent with a strong mineral acid, decomposing the acid addition salt thus formed and then, if desired, saponifying the product to yield the desired compound of the above formula. The starting 21-acyloxy-pregna-4, 16-diene-3, 11, 20-trione is obtained by saponifying 3a -acetoxy-17a , 21-dibromo-pregnane-11, 20-dione to form 3a -hydroxy- 17a , 21-dibromo-pregnane-3, 20-dione, subjecting this latter compound to oxidation and bromination to yield 4, 17a , 21-tribromopregnane-3, 11, 20-trione, thereafter eliminating hydrogen bromide from this product to give 21-bromo-pregn-4, 16-diene-3, 11, 20-trione and finally reacting this product with an alkali metal acylate to yield the desired 21-acyloxy-pregna-4, 16-diene-3, 11, 20-trione.
