966,229. Slicing machines. GLOBE SLICING MACHINE Inc. Aug. 2, 1960, No. 26788/60. Heading A4C. A rotary knife machine comprising a knife-carrying hub 6 driven through gearing 5, 4 from a motor 2 has a cylindrical member 39 fixed to and extending through a housing 24 to support the hub and provide passage for a rod 18 having a screw thread connection with a part 27 of the knife guard 10-11-12, the rod 18 being rotatable by a knurled head 34 to draw the guard into abutment with a releasable collar 32 whose position on member 39 is determined by shims 30 which may be varied in number to obtain alignment of the central face 10 of the guard with the cutting edge 8 of the knife 7. The member 39, which comprises integral positions 23, 17, 22, 31, is secured to housing 24 by an integral collar 38 and a clamping nut 25 on portion 23 and hub 6 is supported directly by portion 17 and indirectly through roller bearings 20, 21 held in place on portion 22 by nut 29, a stop 51 on collar 32 providing a further hub bearing. The collar 32 is secured against rotation by a screw 37 engaging a keyway on portion 31 and it has a pin 42 engaging an arcuate slot in guard portion 27 to limit rotation of the guard when the latter has to be freed.
