[Also in Division A4] An apparatus for trimming brushes comprises a tube through which a brush may be fed, a rotary member coaxial with and rotatable relative to said tube, a rotary cutter mounted for rotation on the rotary member about an axis off-set from the axis of the rotary member and means for rotating the rotary member and the rotary cutter. The apparatus includes front and rear supports stands 15 and 16 respectively, a sleeve 20 forming part of the front stand and a rotary sleeve 35 mounted in the sleeve 20 by bearings 30. The rotary sleeve 35 extends beyond sleeve 20 and has mounted on its inner end 43 a main plate 50. In the rear surface of the plate 50 are opposed similar recesses 60 and a radial slot 67. In each recess 60 is received a plate 90 which is retained by screws 103 passing through slots 102 in extensions of the plate and into tapped holes in the plate 50. In each plate 90 is a central bore containing a ball bearing 111 supporting a shaft 112. The rear end of each shaft 112 is supported in a ball bearing 127 mounted in a plate 120, which is secured to the plate 90 by screws which enter tapped holes 108 and is spaced therefrom by parallel bars. Mounted on and keyed to the portion of each shaft 112 between the plates 90 and 120 is a milling cutter 130, and mounted on the front end of each shaft is a pulley 133 which is engaged by a belt 85. The belt tension is adjusted by an idler pulley 141 movable along the slot 67. The main plate 50 is driven by a pulley 75 keyed to the rotary sleeve 35 and itself driven by a belt 77. Also mounted on the rotary sleeve 35 are the inner races 78 of roller bearings 79 to the outer races 79 of which are fixed a pair of cutter drive pulleys 81, 82 which rotate as a unit. The pulley 81 is driven by a belt 83 at a greater speed than the pulley 75. The pulley 82 is engaged by the belt 85 and drives the cutters 130 through the pulleys 133. Extending through the rotary sleeve 35 is a fixed bushing 70, the front end of which is held centrally in a member 27 secured to the sleeve 20 and the rear end of which passes loosely through the main plate 50. Adjustably mounted on each block 90 is a cutter blade 160 which co-operates with the rotary cutter to cause a shearing action on the bristles of a brush fed through the fixed bushing 70.
