A depositing machine for separating asymmetrically folded paper sheets from a pile one at a time, and for depositing these sheets on a conveyer comprises a continuously rotating gripper drum 2 for removing a sheet from the pile, and first and second auxiliary gripper drums 3, 4 arranged beneath the drum 2 for opening out and depositing said sheet on the conveyer, wherein the drums 3, 4 have grippers engaging the longer and shorter page of each folded sheet, respectively, and the drum 3 has a shorter axial length than the drum 2 so that a part of its circumference projects radially into a hollow part of the drum 2. The drum 2 comprises two spaced discs 21 fixed to a shaft 20 and connected by a part cylindrical surface. A gripper 24 pivoted between the discs 21 is spring-biased against a stationary cam 22. The auxiliary drums 3, 4 and grippers 34, 44 are constructed similarly, the drum 3 having a shorter axial length than the drum 2 so that a part of its circumference projects into a hollow part of drum 2. In operation, a folded sheet is fed up to a fixed stop 26 on a curved guide plate 13 depending from the front edge of a pile table 10 and held in position by two rollers 25. The latter pass through slots in the guide plate and co-operate with the discs 21. The trailing edge of the sheet is removed from the drum 2 by the edges 310 of the discs 31 and the longer page engaged by the gripper 34. The shorter page falls away on continued rotation of the drum 3 and is engaged by the gripper 44 whereby the folded sheet is opened. On opening the grippers 34, 44 the sheet drops on to a conveyer 5.
