Abstract

1374376 Feeding sheets BURROUGHS CORP 16 Jan 1973 [1 June 1972] 2133/73 Heading B8R Sheets 10 are separated from a pile by perforated belts 26 passing across a vacuum chamber 24 positioned at an angle to the pile, the suction force and a guide 16 causing the front part of the end sheet to bend at an angle, and a plurality of fingers 38 intermeshing the belts are extended beyond the belts to prevent the separation of a sheet and retracted to allow separation. The pile is advanced to the guide 16 by friction belts 18 controlled by a sensing lever 22, the sheets being piled on edge. The fingers 38 are controlled by a stepping motor 34 or a solenoid, and are extended when a photo-cell 44 detects the leading edge of the preceding sheet and retracted when a photo-cell 48 detects the trailing edge.
