Abstract
965,458. Aircraft ejection seats. J. MARTIN. July 3, 1962 [July 3, 1961], No. 23973/61. Heading B7G. An aircraft ejection seat includes a gas pressure operated ejection gun having a cylinder to be secured to an aircraft structure and a tubular piston attached to the seat, and means forguiding the seat in a predetermined direction during and after propulsion by the gun. In the Figure, the ejection gun comprises an outer cylinder 1 attached to the airframe, and an inner cylinder 2 attached to the seat, having apertures 7 disposed so that gas pressure within the gun during ejection is dissipated before cylinder 2 is wholly withdrawn from cylinder 1. Alternatively, the apertures may be in cylinder 1, being uncovered by cylinder 2 in the course of ejection. In either case, the telescoped cylinders continue to guide the seat after propulsion ceases. An alternative or additional guide comprises slippers attached to the seat frame running in guide channels on the outer gun cylinder. Specifications 583,257, 640,520, 652,131, 711,234, 721,752, 920,545, 941,583 and 959,897 are referred to.
