[Also in Division B4] In a machine for edge-finishing unattached shoe soles and heels comprising a carrier for a workpiece and a template whose outline is to be traced, a tool 15, Fig. 1, such as a grinding wheel, rotatable about a vertical axis, and a guide means 16 coaxial or substantially coaxial with the tool, the tool is mounted in a head 7 which is pivotable about a horizontal axis 9 and is adapted to be held stationary in its working position and at least one other position. The support 1 for the tool and guide means is movable towards and away from the carrier for the workpiece and template by spring means and is formed with a slide for the head 7 which is vertically movable by a spindle 2 having a handle 6. The slide has a plate 10 on which is a screw 9 for pivotally supporting a plate 8 on the head 7, the plate 8 having a cut-out which abuts a stop 11 on the plate 10 to determine the vertical position of the spindle of the tool. A clamp 13 secures the head in its vertical, working position, and spring washers on the screw 9 hold the head in inclined positions when it is desired to change the tool and/ or the guide means 16 when the latter is mounted on the spindle of the head, as shown in Fig. 2. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the guide means 16 is mounted by a pin 22 on a rail 20 which is adjustably secured to a bracket 19 adjustably mounted on the support 1.
